RM Rail has model 13-1258-04 flat car for large-capacity containers certified
RM Rail, Russia’s leading manufacturer of freight rolling stock, has obtained its Federal Railways' Certification Registry certificate of conformity for model 13-1258-04 flat car . It is manufactured by RM Rail Ruzkhimmash, developed by RM Rail Engineering and NVTs-Vagony JSC.
The car is intended for transportation of heavy-tonnage and tank containers (including hazardous substances of hazard classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 according to GOST 19433) over the whole railway network with the track gauge of 1520 mm.
Compared to the previous generation of the fitting flat cars, the new model’s loading capacity has been increased to 76 tons by reducing the container weight to maximum 18 tons.
Special stops for the container fittings prevent spontaneous movement of containers relative to the frame and also prevent containers from tipping over at wind speeds of up to 40 m/s.
For the first time, the engineers have used model 18-1277-01 bogie with a static axle load of 23.5 tons developed specifically for light-container rolling stock. Its design has demonstrated stable dynamic characteristics during tests of both loaded and empty rail cars. This is achieved through a specially-selected original spring suspension. The main elements of the bogie are interchangeable with serial models 18–9801 and 18-1277, which also ensures continuity in the equipment.
Sergei Ralovets, Managing Director of RM Rail Engineering:
"For the fitting flat car market, we are offering an improved solution that paves the way for increasing the weight of transported cargo by reducing the container weight. The axle load allows this rail car to be used throughout the entire space 1520 without restrictions. The barrier that used to limited the manufacturing of the rolling stock with a site container weight of less than 18 tons has been overcome. This means we can further develop light-container rolling stock and fulfill the objectives of the industry for modernizing and renewing freight rolling stock using domestic technologies. The project has also added a fifth bogie to RM Rail’s product line: it was certified back in early 2026."
